Another Guy.

Another Guy was the first song that I was scared of, because it was a true story with NO leeway to soften it for safety. This was around the time where I'd cracked that plane where songs began arriving fully formed, but with my luck, it came with a catch.
Musically it’s a godsend. Lyrically it’s a LIABILITY. Some of the stuff that comes out is potentially socially dangerous... but it always scans too well that I can't change it!
It's about a few people from various social circles at the time, now far enough in the past that it's safe to talk about. A guy falling obsessively in love with a girl he had nothing in common with, planning his life around her but... never even asking her out.
As his delusion snowballed, she inevitably found someone else, but the bombshell was - which I discovered during a shop run at Big Tesco - he was a beloved friend of ours!!
The only artistic license I took was the aisle where I encountered them. But given it was Spring 2020 and the "oof you caught us" look on their faces, they obviously hadn't bumped into each other there whilst stocking up on bread and milk
I had to put something out there at the time so I did, little music video and everything. It's a funny irony that I had long hair and a feral beard (it was the times), but then finally released this album at this age with a fresh face and a moptop.
People call this "the Beatles one" - which, whilst wildly flattering, is VERY slippery territory. Really it was inspired by Merseybeat as a whole - particularly Mitch Murray who wrote for a lot of groups at that time - plus a sprinkle of Kinks, ELO, Costello and even big band jazz changes.
Music written in January 2020. Lyrics soon after the Spring bombshell. Recorded Jan-Feb 2021, video recorded that February with help from Nancy and Nathan, and initially released in April that year. All instruments by me.
It's track 4 of 'Loading...', and the CD's have SOLD OUT which is crazy. If you were one of the lucky people, it'll be with you in the week. But you can still buy it digitally. I'll have to stock up on some more for when we play live again, maybe next month... more news on that soon x
