For the first time since I was naive, I'm seriously excited!
The last couple of months have been spent hibernating off-stage. Well apart from the odd moment! But I've spent most of it in the audience. Not only for talented friends and iconic inspirations, but for the first time I've ever known, contemporaries with an enormous and genuine hype around them.
It's a different place to be in, and I need to get used to it. I go to let loose, have a boogie and shout the choruses I know or whatever it is you're supposed to do, but end up analysing it all like Louis Theroux!!
Right, album update. It's survived the "post-completion depression" test and I STILL like it! Which is a good sign? Even more thrillingly - the spinning wheel of contenders has finally (provisionally) landed on a dream group that I could make a dream show happen with.
It's very very early stages - the foundations are in place but the brickwork is yet to commence - that said the sonic possibilities these contenders have combined are utterly "woah"-level.
Having spent my entire life either being a sideman or on my sonic larry, the prospect of having a concrete band of my own has always seemed a fantasy beyond the makeshift. Now that it's coming into fruition with people of such calibre coming forward, it's a REALLY weird feeling. And I had a ghost pepper once.
All shall be revealed when the unit solidifies, into what I truly believe will be a force to be reckoned with. I have some crazy ideas for a launch. But everything needs to be in place. It WILL be worth it!
In the meantime, next up is a show with The Aim at the 229 in London on Friday, then with Nine Below Zero at the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne Minster on Saturday. I'm also running an acoustic open mic in Sidcup tonight. It's the 200th one I've done there! So we're celebrating it.
