Now for a wild one. "La-La-La" started with no direction, then there was... the incident. Again a risky true story.

Way back in May 2018 I was noodling with ideas, and over a couple of evenings, assembled the whole backing track. But I had no words. I was trying too hard and nothing worked, so it sat there for years.

Fast forward to a recent run of shows in Germany, when we met a... character.

Look I'm all for "don't believe everything you read", but ironically, some of the loudest preachers of this believe ANYTHING they read, with zero critical thinking. This guy was one of those. He was so far gone, he even believed his own fibs.

One point he drove us back to the hotel in a taxi, repeatedly insisting he really was a music mogul and "not a taxi driver". Maybe I shouldn't have believed the light up sign that read 'TAXI'.

It was amusing at first, we even made a little bingo card. But okay, we all have our views on the world we can agree or disagree on... but no matter how polarised, there is a line that's universally reprehensible, and he crossed it.

We were in a restaurant having the "look this isn't working out" chat and he flipped into a rage. He even put his fingers in his ears and did the la-la-la thing like a toddler. He was quite a bit older than us by the way.

The tune and lyrics INSTANTLY arrived when I got to my next hotel room. I won't say exactly which town, but it was notably "historical". He invited me to come see the site of the 1930s rallies. As it was his idea, I passed.

Musically it's a "Roxy Music" structure - a loop of verses then a curveball breakdown - and the bass was inspired by a 90s Bowie track when he went all industrial. Obviously it ended up sounding like neither!

There's also a riff in the breakdown I've had since 2013. But every time I put it forward to bands, they go "iT sOuNDs LiKe RoYaL bLoOd"... who formed in 2014. So I kept it to myself out of spite.

Music written and recorded May 2018, live drums at Pirate in June 2020, vocals Aprils 2022 & 2023. If you can make a song out of an idiot, it restores some balance in the world.

Last CD's sent out today btw x
